Historical Actions:
Counteracts excess thyroxine ( thyroid gland hormone). Circulatory and heart sedative; nervous system sedative. Hemostatic (allays minor bleeding).
Historical Uses:
Hyperthyroid (overactive thyroid gland). Heart problems marked by irritable, accelerated or irregular heart action ( esp. with sense of oppression in chest with difficult breathing); reduces pulse and restores circulatory and cardiac tone. Coughs with copious expectoration (esp. chronic debilitating coughs). Mild bleeding of lungs, stomach, intestines, uterus or urinary tract. Insomnia.
Cautions:
Thyroid enlargement or hypothyroid (underachieve thyroid). Consult with physician before taking with thyroid drugs. Do not use in pregnancy.
